Staging a Victorian Cottage in Sierra Madre
We were called to stage a romantic Victorian home in Sierra Madre by the listing agent, Judy Rubin. Judy is a big fan of home staging in general, and of Moving Mountains Design, in particular. She must be on to something, because almost every home we stage for her sells, and sells quickly.
The layout of this home is unique, as many Victorians are, and really needed to be staged to define the spaces and their best use. Staging is not just about adding furniture or rearranging furniture. It is important to add the right furniture and arrange it in a way that highlights theĀ best features of the home, while drawing attention away from awkward or ill-defined areas. We defined an area for a dining table and family room seating in an area adjoining the kitchen. We created a cozy living room and a romantic master bedroom suite.
You’ll notice that we didn’t use Victorian style furniture when staging this home. It is my experience that while people love Victorian homes, they don’t love Victorian furniture. Most people find it too fussy and uncomfortable. Since the purpose of staging is to make the home appealing to the greatest number of buyers, we use furniture to demonstrate that you don’t have to be a slave to the Victorian style, even if you want to own a Victorian home.
