Staging a Victorian Cottage in Sierra Madre
September 9, 2009
We were called to stage a romantic Victorian home in Sierra Madre by the listing agent, Judy Rubin. Judy is a big fan of home staging in general, and of Moving Mountains Design, in particular. She must be on to something, because almost every home we stage for her sells, and sells quickly.

The layout of this home is unique, as many Victorians are, and really needed to be staged to define the spaces and their best use. Staging is not just about adding furniture or rearranging furniture. It is important to add the right furniture and arrange it in a way that highlights the best features of the home, while drawing attention away from awkward or ill-defined areas. We defined an area for a dining table and family room seating in an area adjoining the kitchen. We created a cozy living room and a romantic master bedroom suite.

You’ll notice that we didn’t use Victorian style furniture when staging this home. It is my experience that while people love Victorian homes, they don’t love Victorian furniture. Most people find it too fussy and uncomfortable. Since the purpose of staging is to make the home appealing to the greatest number of buyers, we use furniture to demonstrate that you don’t have to be a slave to the Victorian style, even if you want to own a Victorian home.

Vacant Home Staging For An Arcadia Townhome
September 8, 2009
This week we staged a vacant Acadia town home located in a very nice complex on Fairview Ave. When I first met the homeowners, they were in the process of moving out, hence all the before photos show their moving boxes.
Upon my recommendation, they agreed to paint the entire unit, have the carpets steam cleaned and hire a handyman to take care of a few minor repairs. They did a really nice job making their condo move-in ready. They were smart about hiring a professional home stager, and doubly smart for following my recommendations.

- lots of kitchen counter space,
- spa-like bathrooms and
- a large master bedroom with giant walk in closet.
- They’ll also see a well priced condo in a desirable Arcadia neighborhood, that is neat as a pin and well maintained.

Does Home Staging Work? An Update On Some Recent Los Angeles Stagings
September 7, 2009
I’m often asked: Does home staging work? Do staged homes sell faster than unstaged homes?
I can’t speak for other los angeles home staging companies, but homes staged by Moving Mountains Design are selling very quickly, even in this challenging real estate market.
Three Los Angeles area homes we staged recently have either sold or are in escrow.
A South Pasadena condo we staged in early July sold and has closed escrow.

A Pasadena Craftsman cottage we staged on August 4th is in escrow. To read more and see photos read Pasadena Craftsman Staging Photos

A charming California Cottage in Valley Village was staged on August 17 and is also now in escrow. Read Beautiful Valley Village Cottage Home Staging for more photos and information.

So, based on our current (and past) experience, I would have to say yes, home staging by Moving Mountains Designs works!
